Being sleepered

I occasionally get along to a gay wrestling group where the instructor won't allow strangles/chokes on the grounds of danger - huh! - half my repetoire out of the window! I mainly go to submission & BJJ classes. There we routinely get our partners in strangles (blood supply restricted) and chokelocks (this is principally across the wind pipe but often with an element of strangle involved).

When sparring in class you tap-out the moment you realise you can't escape & we make sure beginners know how to tap-out. Everyone there, happily, seems aware of the import of what he is doing, does not put the hold on visciously and lets go when tapped or if the partner seems distressed. He wants the guy to come back & have fun next lesson after all. In the event of amateur competitions & fights when the guys are out to win, win, win, in my observation referees are very vigilent & call a halt in good time.

On one of two rare occasions I have gone very slightly dizzy at the hands of an over enthusiastic partner but recovered within seconds. On only one occasion did I witness someone going very briefly unconscious & that was many years ago at judo. The subject thought he could resist so didn't tap, & the other guy didn't think he had the hold on properly so kept going. The unconscoious guy was back with us very quickly & like a previous writer on here said, the guy had no recollection of what happened.

I don't know what judo guys do now but I understand back in the middle of last century part of the assessment for the judo black belt at the Budokwai in London was held behind closed doors: each candidate in turn had to be strangled to unconsciousness & also in turn had to apply katsu (Japanese) resuscitation. My family doctor was a black belt of that era, so there was a sensible medical man taking part.

So guys, provided people are sensible & vigilant, chokes and strangles are nothing to be that scared about, although I reckon proper coaching is essential so you know what its all about & realise it is not without some risk.

the BJJ hold is a little risky as your cutting of major arteries to the brain so its actually knocking someone on conscious and runs all the risks of any head injury

the thing with jujitsu is knowing once someone has a move on u must submit or risk injury if your going to put this type of hold on then u need a first aider

iv had the move put on me a few times practicing it and tapped as soon as it was on it is a scary feeling once on u cant breath and u immediately feel faint u have a few seconds to get out of it and that's it then tap or pass out Inicia sessão para visualizares a galeria de fotos.

Never been put in a sleeper hold, I always wondered what it would be like to be put in one.

Yes, even though people at my level of bjj arent even taught how to sleeper someone. Only more advanced practicioners are able to do it because its so risky.

Its a weird feeling because you never know when you will pass out. When someone gets sleepered its not the breathing that stops, but the blood supply to the brain, so thats why it can be very dangerous. Its about the same feeling of passing out, your view just gets blured and before you knwo it you are waking up with someone holding you upright lol.

But yeah you shouldn't try it unless you are 100% sure whoever is doing it on you knows what he is doing.

I’ve come across a cool clip of a JuJitsu guy being sleepered by a muscled lad. The guy gets put to sleep in less than 10 seconds and is literally fast asleep in this other guy’s arms. After a lot of snoring which lasts about 30 seconds or so he starts flinching and opens his eyes. The strange thing is the Jujitsu lad asks his buddy when is he going to be put to sleep. Its like he didn’t even know he was fast asleep like he was dreaming or something strange. Has anyone else experienced this feeling or have you got any experiences to share.

I’m kind of tempted to get sleepered myself just for the hell of it but I know it can be dangerous. I would be reluctant to sleeper another guy but the thought of it being done to me seems something I should experience at least once or should I keep it as a fantasy.
