Karate Combat offers a fresh set of rules and an alternative arena. I like that diversification a lot, because it allows for new fighting styles to emerge.
I don't like the overall marketing of the brand. It seems to suggest to be "cleaner" than MMA brands like the UFC. And that might be true in comparison to the UFC where "creating visibility" (and thus money) tends to interfere with getting good matchmaking and the sport itself. But by "subtracting" the grappling it seems like they created a strange ground and pound that favors the standing fighter a lot and which MMA has been falsely accused of for years. "Unlike boxing they don't stop beating the opponent on the ground, that's not clean fighting". In MMA that argument is garbage, because the grounded opponent can use submission holds to their advantage and something that looked like a knockdown in the first place can turn into win for the other guy. So I think they will get some problems should they ever get a bigger attention and people look further/deeper than "oh, they wear long pants". ;)
But I'll stop my rant on that special branding here. :p
All in all Karate Combat offers a faster style that rewards offensive fighting, because if a fighter moves backwards too much they might fall over/onto that ramp. And if they manage to knock down or sweep their opponent they can follow up in quite a one-sided way.
That's just what I saw in the fights available freely and I haven't studied the rules. Maybe that fighting style comes from the fighters not being used to those new opportunities (created by the rules). They seem to recruit stand-up fighters (well, yeah, it's called Karate Combat, right?) mostly.
It feels a bit like the good old time of MMA when fighters were still trying to fit their original sports into that new set of rules and there were no "best practices" for about everything. And I like that a lot. :)

Wall of text... TLDR: I'm curious about how it will evolve further and if there will be distinguished "Karate Combat" fighters in the future.

I appreciate you bringing that angle to it, I wasn't even thinking about that aspect but it's a very good point. I definitely enjoy the faster pace, I love fast pace given I only know one speed, lol. But I guess over time we'll see what comes of your perspective here. Let's see how it does this year and what fighters take part and what rule adjustments they might make.

Been loving it since the start, the pit they designed to fight in makes the fights so much more dynamic and interesting to watch. It's def a fighting style and ruleset I'd like to see replicated in other competitions/promotions

I've been watching karate combat since it started a great hybrid competition bringing different karate styles together with new rules for attack . And the arena is awesome.

Happy New Year guys. My first post of the year in fact. Anyway, I've been really fascinated with this sport growing in popularity known as Karate Combat. It's so like modern and dynamic. It's really fun to watch, It's a quicker pace too. I was wondering that you guys think of it?

Wishing everyone the best this year, even those that want to beat me up, lol.

Thanks Al. (You always have great posts - i appreciate your enthusiasm and learn a lot...) I had not heard of Karate Combat, so went to YouTube to find some examples. The knock-outs seem a lot like MMA in a ring (or cage fighting) - I did not watch a lot of vids to see any submission attempts. Can I ask - what do you see as the main differences between Karate Combat and MMA? Thank you.

Sure man, and thanks. Well, you can't do any submissions in Karate combat and it's more punch, kick, sweep focused.
